The note from (illegible)” In 1770’s, instruments were probably made by a blacksmith. A curved knife made elliptical incisions through soft tissue easier and quicker, gurry ost to continue (illegible) speed a priority. Direct pressure stopped most bleeding, clamping only after anesthesia was introduced. Often (illegible) seen (illegible) injury at which point active bleeding had stopped.
